The statement of TN CM Thiru M K Stalin, welcoming the Madras Day celebrations, has come as a rude and painful shock to lovers of Tamil culture, history and followers of the Tamil movement in Chennai and other parts of TN. The statement goes against the traditional stand of the TN govt right from the Congress govts to that of the DMK and even the AIADMK to ignore the Madras Day as they always believed that Chennai and other parts of TN existed from well before Sangam era for over 2000 years

The DMK-led front has secured a vote-share of 43.65 per cent in the votes counted so far, about 2.18 per cent more than that of the AIADMK-led combine's vote share of 41.47 per cent. The AIADMK current vote-share clearly indicates an anti-incumbency trend against CM Edappadi K Palaniswami's AIADMK rule compared to the 2016 Assembly polls. However, these votes from the AIADMK kitty went to other parties, not the DMK, and this explains why the DMK could not register an emphatic victory
