DMK storms back to power in TN, Stalin set to be CM

The DMK stormed back to power in Tamil Nadu after a gap of 10 years, with its president M K Stalin set to take over as chief minister on May 7 at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan. The DMK-led front won 159 of the 234 seats up for grabsin the April 6 elections, counting for which was taken up on May 2 and 3, 2021. The AIADMK had to bow out of power, coming down from 134 in the previous House to just 66 now. Edappadi Palaniswami submitted his resignation as chief minister.
The DMK won 133 seats including MDMK, MMK, and a few minor partners who contested on the DMK symbol, besides other allies Congress 18, VCK 4, the two Communist parties two seats each. The AIADMK won 66 seats, its ally PMK 5 and the BJP 4, taking the total of the front to 75.
Parties led by actor-turned politician, Kamal Haasan of the MNM, Naam Tamizhar Katchi (PMK) led by actor-director Seeman, and AMMK led by TTV Dinakaran, nephew of Sasikala Natarajan, former aide of J Jayalalithaa, drew a blank.
