  • DMK storms back to power in TN, Stalin set to be CM

    The DMK stormed back to power in Tamil Nadu after a gap of 10 years, with its president M K Stalin set to take over as chief minister on May 7 at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan. The DMK-led front won 159 of the 234 seats up for grabsin the April 6 elections, counting for which was taken up on May 2 and 3, 2021. The AIADMK had to bow out of power, coming down from 134 in the previous House to just 66 now. Edappadi Palaniswami submitted his resignation as chief minister.

  • Justice Sathyanarayanan to hear MLAs disqualification case

    The Supreme Court has refused to transfer the case of disqualification against AIADMK MLAs supporting T T V Dinakaran. A petition was filed by disqualified MLAs supporting Dinakaran seeking to transfer the case from the Madras High Court to the Supreme Court. However, the court said the case could be transferred to a new judge, Justice M Sathyanarayana, replacing Justice S Vimala.

    The Madras High Court gives a split verdict in the AIADMK MLAs disqualification case. Chief Justice Indira Banerjee, in her order, upheld disqualification of 18 AIADMK MLAs but Justice M Sundar quashed the disqualification in his order. The case will now be heard by a third judge.

  • Delhi police books bribery case against Dhinakaran on symbol issue

    AIADMK (Amma) Deputy General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran has been booked by Crime Branch of Delhi Police following the arrest of a middleman from a five-star hotel in Delhi on Sunday, April 16, 2017. The FIR was filed for allegedly bribing the middleman to get the Election Commission to allot the Two Leaves symbol allotted to his faction.
