Chennai:
The Madras High Court gives a split verdict in the AIADMK MLAs disqualification case. Chief Justice Indira Banerjee, in her order, upheld disqualification of 18 AIADMK MLAs but Justice M Sundar quashed the disqualification in his order. The case will now be heard by a third judge.
Until the final order of a third judge, the status of the disqualifiied MLAs will continue. By-elections to these 18 constituencies cannot be held till the third judge gives the order.
The AIADMK government gets a temporary lease of life as these 18 persons cannot attend the Assembly or take part in the proceedings till final orders are obtained.
The fate of these functionaries who are supporters of T T V Dinakaran, Independent MLA, who later formed Amma MMK, continues to hang in the balance.
