Heavy rains are predicted for several parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and northern Tamil Nadu under the influence of cyclonic storm Nivar though it has weakened into a Deep Depression, the met department said on November 26. Heavy rains are likely for Tirupati.

A severe cyclonic storm NIVAR over southwest Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Puducherry in the early hours of November 26, and moved northwestwards after weakening into a deep depression. Areas near Puducherry, Cuddalore, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Mamallapuram and Tambaram in Tamil Nadu were largely affected due to heavy rains and strong winds.

A severe cyclonic storm is expected to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram at a point near Puducherry on November 25, 2020 evening with a wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph, the Met department said on November 24 evening. Over 21 cm of rainfall is expected in the above areas on November 25.
