Heavy rains forecast for AP, Telangana, north TN from Nivar

Heavy rains are predicted for several parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and northern Tamil Nadu under the influence of cyclonic storm Nivar though it has weakened into a Deep Depression, the met department said on November 26. The deep depression over South Rayalaseema and neighbourhood moved nearly northwards with a speed of 13 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred about 30 kms west-southwest of Tirupathi and 115 km west-northwest of Chennai. Heavy rains are thus forecast for Tirupati.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai and Dharmapuri districts of Tamil Nadu. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area; Light rain is likely to occur at isolated places over South Tamilnadu.
The very severe cyclonic storm over southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) moved northwestwards and crossed Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts near Puducherry (near latitude 12.1°N and longitude 79.9°E) during 2330 IST of November 25 to 0230 IST of November 26 as a very severe cyclonic storm with an estimated wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph. Continuing to move northwestwards, it weakened into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over north coastal Tamil Nadu in the early morning hours (0230 hrsIST)and further into a cyclonic storm in the morning (0830 hrs IST) of November 26, 2020. It lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of November 26, 2020 over the same region near Lat. 12.6°N and Long 79.4°E, about 85 km north-northwest of Puducherry and about 95 km west-southwest of Chennai.
The Cyclonic Storm „NIVAR‟ would continue to move northwestwards and weaken further into a Deep Depression during next 06 hours and into a depression by subsequent 06 hours.
Warnings:(i) Rainfall Under its influence, rainfall at most/many places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls likely to occur over Chittoor, Kurnool, Prakasam; Cuddappa districts of Andhra Pradesh and adjoining southeast Telangana on Nov 26. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated placesare very likely over north Tamilnadu, remaining districts of Andhra Pradesh and southeast Telangana.
