The DMDK will contest 124 seats as part of the Captain Vijayakanth Front (CVF) in the May 16 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and the 4-party People's Welfare Front (PWF) in 110 seats, the CVF convenor Vaiko announced in Chennai on March 23.

The DMK on March 23 received a major set-back as the Vijayakanth-led DMDK announced the formation of a third front with the four-party People's Welfare Front (PWF) for the May 2016 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
