Chennai: The Madurantakam lake in Kancheepuram district faces breach as it has neared the point of overflow following heavy rains in northern  Tamil Nadu in the last two days.

7,000 cubic feet of water is being released per second to prevent the lake from a breach. A flood alert has been issued by local authorities and people in low-lying areas have been asked to move to safer places.

Water from Madurantakam is being let into the Killiyaaru river to prevent breach of the lake.
