The statement of TN CM Thiru M K Stalin, welcoming the Madras Day celebrations, has come as a rude and painful shock to lovers of Tamil culture, history and followers of the Tamil movement in Chennai and other parts of TN. The statement goes against the traditional stand of the TN govt right from the Congress govts to that of the DMK and even the AIADMK to ignore the Madras Day as they always believed that Chennai and other parts of TN existed from well before Sangam era for over 2000 years

The references by the Alvars to various places in Chennai, visited by them, proves the antiquity of Chennai, and the existence of the places at least from 5th CE. This shows that Chennai is not 380 years old but truly ancient. Bhuthath Alvar, Pey Alvar, Thirumazhisai Alvar and Thirumangai Alvar have visited these place and rendered hymns on them.
