Delhi police bring Dhinakaran to Chennai for probe in EC bribery case

A police team from New Delhi, led by assistant commissioner Sanjay Sherawath, brought AIADMK (Amma) faction deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran to Chennai on April 27 for further probe into his alleged attempt to bribe an Election Commission official to secure the AIADMK Two Leaves symbol.
The police team brought him out of airport terminal through the third gate in the afternoon.
The police took him to Rajaji Bhavan at Besant Nagar Chennai inwhere he would be questioned further.
AIADMK (Amma) leader TTV Dhinakaran was arrested on April 25 night after four days of questioning by Delhi Police.
He is accused of attempting to bribe an Election Commission official for retaining the party's poll symbol of "two-leaves" for his faction.
Dhinakaran was called on April 25 night by the Delhi crime branch police, Praveer Ranjan, joint commissioner of police (crime), said. His longtime friend Mallikarjuna was also arrested after being questioned for the second day, he said.
Mallikarjuna had been accompanying Dhinakaran everywhere ever since Sukesh Chandrsekhar, the middleman in the EC bribery case, was arrested, police said.
Dhinakaran had on April 24 confessed to meeting Chandrasekhar, assuming he was a high court judge.
Dhinakaran had confessed to having Chandrasekhar Rs 10 crore for the attempt, including payment through a Kochi-based Hawala agent.
The former MP is said to have told the Delhi police that he desperately needed the party's Two Leaves symbol to win the RK Nagar by-poll.
