The ruling AIADMK (Amma) on April 18 night removed party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran and his family from the party in accordance with the wishes of all sections of the party and to continue the government in an united manner, Finance Minister D Jayakumar announced to mediapersons in Chennai.
Jayakumar said the decision was taken unanimously at the residence of Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy by ministers, MPs and MLAs, and senior office-bearers.
The meeting decided to keep the Dhinakaran family totally out of the party, and there would be no interference from the party and the government from this family, Jayakumar said.
Regarding removal of V K Sasikala, Dhinakaran's aunt and party general secretary, from the post and the party, Jayakumar said the party had formed a committee to manage the affairs of the party, and it would also take up the issue of removing her from this post.
In the last two days, hectic parleys were held by ministers from time to time to resolve the problems in the party and to bring about a patch-up with the O Panneerselvam group.
Jayakumar said the committee would hold talks with the OPS group regarding unity.
Suitable steps would be taken to bring about unity and to retrieve the AIADMK's Two Leaves symbol, Jayakumar said.
