Chennai:
Thanthi TV , in an Exit Poll aired on May 17 night, has predicted 111 seats for AIAMK and 99 seats for DMK-led alliance, with 16 seats still in the Neck To Neck (NTN) category out of 232 seats which went to the polls on May 16. Of the Others, the Third Front is set to win three seats, PMK 2 and BJP 1.
The Exit Poll shows that the ruling AIADMK is just seven seats short of a majority in the 23-member House, with 16 seats still in the Neck to Neck category. If the AIADMK win half of these 16 NTN seats, it can scrape through, going by the Thanthi TV Exit Poll.
For the DMK to get a majority, it will win have to win both Aravakurichi and Thanjavur which are set for polling on March 23, and the 16 NTN seats. Even then, it would reach just 117, according to the Thanthi TV Exit Poll.
The poll projects a victory for the Third Front in 3 seats – Ulundurpettai (Vijayakanth’s constituency), Thali (CPI candidate Ramachandran) and Bhavanisagar (CPI’s sitting MLA Sundaram).
The PMK is estimated to win Pennagaram (contested by the party’s chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss) and Arcot.
The BJP is projected to win a solitary seat (Vedaranyam) contested by former DMK MLA SK Vedarathinam.
The six seats, projected to be won by the Others, could also be crucial in formation of the government especially if it is a hung Assembly.
The tally of the Others could go up, if some of the Neck To Neck contest seats go to them. The PMK is involved in a triangular fight with the AIADMK and DMK in some of these constituencies.
The AIADMK may end up with a vote share of 38 per cent and the DMK-led alliance 32 per cent, according to this Exit Poll.
The Thanthi TV, in its Opinion Poll on May 16 night, had estimated that would get 102 seats, and the DMK-led alliance 79, PMK 1, while 52 seats were in the Neck To Neck category.
