Schools, colleges to be closed in 8 TN districts

Chennai:
Schools and colleges will remain closed in 8 districts of Tamil Nadu on Monday, November 23, while schools be closed in four other districts as well. Collectors of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Cuddalore, Villupuram have announced closure of schools on Monday. Puducherry and Karaikal have also declared a holiday on Monday.
Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam district collectors have also announced closure of schools on Monday.
The Collectors announced the decision on account of heavy rains that battered northern Tamil Nadu in particular.
Meanwhile, Anna University, Madras University were among the varsities which announced postponement of examinations scheduled to be held on Monday.
In Tuticorin district, a holiday has been declared for Tuticorin Taluk alone, officials said.
Heavy rains have been reported in Salem and Dindigul districts, as also in Kumbakonam.
Water has been discharged from Chembarambakkam reservoir at the rate of 3,000 cubic feet per second, which has increased the level of the Adyar river. The discharge from Chembarambakkam following heavy inflow and to avoid breach.
Pichaattur and Ambapalli reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh have increased discharge of water due to heavy rains and inflow.
