Chennai:
Water is being let out from Chembarampakkam reservoir to prevent breach following heavy inflow of rain water but residents along the Adyar river could face hardship all over again and would have to evacuate in search for safer places.
The release of 5,000 cubic ft of water per second could result in the Adyar river getting swolen and water would flow into the embankments on both sides. Low lying areas near the Adyar river could get flooded with such a high rate of release, said a resident of Kotturpuram on the banks of the Adyar river.
For residents of Kotturpuram, who moved back to the city after seeking refuge in higher places two days ago, would have to be evacuated all over again.
With such a large quantum of water going waste into the sea after crossing Adyar, question marks are bound to be raised on the efficiency levels of local bodies like Corporation, CMDA and Metrowater for not utilising precious rain water.
