Burglars get the better of police in Madurai

Madurai:
Burglars broke into three houses, including that of a police inspector, in Madurai and escaped with valuables.
Burglars targeted locked houses in Nandini Street and Namachivayam Nagar after the residents had gone to their relatives' houses to celebrate Deepavali.
One of the houses belonged to a police inspector who works at Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district. Police said 600 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 1.39 lakh in cash were stolen from the inspector's house.
Eight sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from the other two houses which belonged to M Sahabuddin, 55, and Ebinesan, 63.
