BJP reduced to an also-ran party in Delhi:
New Delhi: The ruling BJP at the Centre suffered the ignominy of a devastating and crushing defeat at the hands of the AAP, falling from 31 seats to just three in the recently held Delhi Assembly elections.
From Mustafabad constituency, Jagdish Pradhan won a seat for the BJP, while the other two winners were Vijender Kumar at Rohini and Om Prakash Sharma at Vishwas Nagar.
Although percentage wise the party secured more or less the same support -- 32.2 per cent now as against 33.30 per cent in 2013 Assemvly polls, a slight drop -- its seat share fell drastically from 31 to just three now.
In contrast, AAP increased its vote share from 29.70 per cent to a whopping 54.3 per cent now.
The Congress too was decimated, losing all seats including the eight it held in 2013, but its vote share too fell from 24.70 per cent to just 9.7 per cent now. The
only consolation it had was to see the downfall of its arch rival, the BJP, giving it hope of a revival. The failure of Prime Minister Modi to deliver a win in the national capital, which houses his office and that of his ministry, has kindled hope in the Congress about a decline in the fortunes of the BJP, and the absence of a wave for BJP, as also the setting in of an anti-incumbency trend against the BJP government at the Centre in just nine months.
Modi's image lies shattered and therein lies hopes of the opposition parties in the country. Although a section of the party is trying to make Kiran Bedi a scapegoat, in reality the party sees the failure of the Modi brand of politics, and that from now on every party in India will be aggressive against it, knowing that it can be beaten.
