The BJP is set to form a government on its own in Haryana, while it will emerge as the single largest party in Maharashtra and will have to look at partnership with Shiv Sena or NCP. The Congress is going out of power in two of its states.
The BJP is leading in 49 out of 90 seats in Haryana, while the ruling Congress is ahead only in 19 seats. The INLD is in second position with 19 seats and the HJC in 2.
In Maharashtra, the BJP is ahead in 116 of the 288 seats, while the Shiv Sena is leading in 61 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 44 and the NCP in 42.
The BJP's State chief, Devendra Fadnavis, who is believed to be the party's first choice for the chief minister's post, is comfortably ahead in Nagpur south-west by a margin of 32,000 votes.
Addressing the media, Fadnavis said, the CM will be from the BJP. "Whether we require alliance, and which party we will seek help from, will be decided at the right time by the parliamentary board of the BJP", he added.
Another CM probable, daughter of Gopinath Munde, Pankaja Munde, who is contesting from Parli in Beed, is leading by 10,000 votes, ahead of estranged cousin Dhananjay.
Former Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde, is ahead in Borivali in suburban Mumbai, by 17,000 votes.
Eknath Khadse leads by 17,000 votes in Muktainagar.
Sudhir Mungantiwar, former BJP state president, is leading too from Chandrapur constituency.
