Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has commenced hearing on the bail plea of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, convicted to a four-year jail-term in the disproportionate assets case by a Bengaluru special court on September 27, 2014.
Mr Justice Chandrasekhara, judge of the Karnataka High Court, is hearing the petitions filed on behalf of Jayalalithaa, and her close aides Sasikala, Sudhagaran and Ilavarasi. The petitions also oppose the conviction and pray for setting aside the order for a four-year jail term and fine of Rs 100 crore with respect to Jayalalithaa and Rs 10 crore each for the other three.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer, Ram Jethamalani, moved for bail, while Special Public Prosecutor Bhavani Singh has filed a counter, opposing bail for the four persons.
