Scintillating dance programme of Aadal Kaaneero by Mylapore Trio

The Mylapore Trio – S.Amarnath, S.Surendranath and S.Aparna -- of “Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation”, Mylapore, presented a Classical Dance programme, “Aadal Kaaneero”, at Vengeeshwarar Temple, Vadapalani, on July 16 on the auspicious occasion of the first day of the sacred month “Aadi” in Tamizh Calendar.
The event was organised by Chennai 2000 Plus Trust and Sri Krishna Sweets as part of the programmes to highlight the antiquity and historicity of Chennai which is over 2,000 years old.
The programme began with the title song “Aadal Kaaneero” sung by M.L.Vasanthakumari, from the popular movie Madurai Veeran, performed by Vidyalakshmi Madhan. This was followed with a subtle Bharathanatyam performance by Kum. H.G.Shakambari for “Sabhaapathikku Veru Deivam” (Ragam-Abhogi, Talam-Rupakam), a Keerthanam of Gopalakrishna Bharathi.
Next was a rare Bharathanatyam Kowthuvam (Ragam-Rasali, Talam-ChaturasraEka) on Lord Shiva of Thrikoneshwaram (Sri Lanka) performed by Chi. Sugathan Mohandass, which was vivacious, and spirited. The story was a new message to the audience. This was followed by a graceful Mohiniyattam performance by Kum. Swathy Mohan for a Padham (Ragam-Dwijavanthi, Talam-Misrachapu) of Swathi Thirunal on Lord Padmanabha. The next event was a vibrant duo performance by Smt. Vidyalakshmi and Smt. Shobitha for the song which was rendered in a captivating manner. This was followed by a gentle Bharathanatyam performance by Shakambari
“Kumara Guruguha” (Ragam- Shanmukhapriya, Talam- Aadi ).
A delightful Mohiniyattam was performed by Swathy for another Swathi Thirunal Padham (Ragam-Pantuvarali, Talam-Rupakam) which was soothing and tender. Shobitha Srinath rendered a scintillating Bharathanatyam performance for “Nagendra Haraya” (Ragam- Raagamaalika, Talam-Mishra Chapu) for MS Subbalakshmi’s song. This was followed by an energetic and vigorous Bharathanatyam Bhajan “Shankara Sri Giri” of Swathi Thirunal (Ragam-Hamsanandhi, Talam-Aadi) by Chi. Sugathan.
Portraying the Half Male and Half Female form of Lord Shiva Ardhanaaree, a Keerthanam of Muthuswamy Dikshithar (Ragam-Kumudakriya, Talam-Rupakam) was rendered in a lively performance by Smt. Vidyalakshmi. This was followed by a Duo Kavadi performance by Kum. Sree Rudra & Kum. Shanjushriya for the song “Azhagu Deivamaga Vandhu” (Ragam-Senjurutti, Talam-Aadi). The Grand Finale of the event was a (brother and sister) duo performance by Chi. Sugathan and Kum. Swathy praising the River Goddess Ganga (Ragam-Ragamalika, Talam-Talamalika), written by Adi Shankaracharya, which was truly spectacular.
Director of Chennai 2000 Plus Trust, R. Rangaraj, welcomed the gathering, and explained about the historicity of the Vengeswarar temple. He also drew attention to the support extended to the programmes by Sri Krishna Sweets, especially its MD, Sri M Murali, regarding culture and fine arts of Chennai. Sri Murali was responsible for programmes being organised throughout the year, which were liked by devotees, rasikas and also helped artistes nurture and promote their talent, Rangaraj pointed out.
