Chennai:
Chennai 2000 Plus Trust and Sri Krishna Sweets presented a special Sashti evening at Vadapalani Murugan Temple on February 13, 2016, with a lecture cum music session by Thiru Varshaji (Simham Kumar). The session was devoted to Thirugnanasambandar songs.
The Chennai 2000 Plus Trust organises programmes to highlight the antiquity of Chennai and to throw light on the various cultural, literary and archaeological treasures relating to ancient Chennai in particular, said its President, R. Rangaraj.
Varshaji spoke about the visits undertaken by Tamil savant Thirugnanasambandar in various parts of Chennai where he composed and rendered songs. These songs have a special place in the history of Tamil literature and music. The songs of the Nayanamars and Alwaars have ensured that these temples themselves came to be regarded as Paadal Petra Sthalam (Hymned Temples -- where songs were composed).
