NIT Trichy alumni to contribute 3 mn USD for institute R and D

NIT Trichy will soon have more PhDs come out from its portals, thanks to the generosity of its past students , who have together, taken on the responsibility to ensure that the institute produces more world class research scholars in different engineering verticals from their college by contributing USD 3 Million in the next 2 years.
Addressing the media, an alumni team of successful entrepreneurs and professionals shared information about the institution and the alumni meet GAM2020 being organised in Chennai.
Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas , Director NIT Trichy said that there has been sea change in the outlook of all the past students of the college. They were willing to contribute significantly for the all-round development of the institution. Talking about the Women development program WIN-NITT being launched at the institute, she said the network is self-governed with directives from the Director of NIT Trichy. The working council comprising of student volunteer will chalk out the programs every year with support from a group of Alumna members. Women and Men Alumna of NIT Trichy will participate in the coaching and counselling programs as a pro bono engagement.
She gave a run down on the speakers and programs planned for GAM 2020 on January 4, 2020.The Director of NIT Trichy will formally announce the charter of the network in GAM 2020 and the first team of alumna coaches will form a group to take the charter forward Padma Bhushan Pullela Gopichand, the Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team will inaugurate GAM2020
Announcing the launch of WIN-NITT, Srimathi Shivashankar, Corporate Vice President, HCL Technologies Ltd, said that this would empower and bring about Networking of Women Alumni which will be helpful to the college and self.
To mark the launch of WIN-NITT in GAM 2020, a panel discussion had been planned on the subject, “Are we doing enough to nurture women to become leaders?”
WIN-NITT (pronounced as win it) is the Women’s Inclusivity Network of NIT Trichy. The purpose of WIN-NITT is to inspire and enable women NITTians to achieve their career aspirations through peer networking and support from NIT Trichy Alumna.
WIN-NITT will focus on the following :-
1. Create networking opportunities and therefore resources for women to advance in their corporate careers including entrepreneurial ventures
2. Coach for leadership through developmental programs conducted by NIT Trichy Alumna as well as subject matter experts
Raja Renganathan , Vice President, Global Head, Cloud Services, Cognizant Technology Solution, and President of the US Chapter, shared information about the Chapter of NIT Alumni Association that had been formally launched in USA at California and the members had already started contributing to the alumnus.
R. Chandrasekar, Founding Member of Cognizant, Executive Vice Chairman Cognizant, (Just Retired) & Chairman’s Council NASSCOM, said that GAM2020 was a landmark event where every past student will be motivated and enthused to give back to the Alma mater. “The response has been very encouraging and we hope to complete of our ambitious project of building a world class stadium in Trichy with an outlay of Rs.6.20 crore. We except to start in next 6 month in complete the same the end of 2021”, he said.
M Krishna Sai, President, REC/NIT Trichy Alumni Association (RECAL) said that there were active Chapters in Trichy, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, UAE, Singapore and USA (East & West Coast). The registrations for GAM2020 had crossed 1,500, and more were expected.
Distinguished Alumni of NIT Trichy are heading several leading corporate houses like TCS, Tata Sons, Tata Steel, Bloom Energy (USA) Sri City etc. They also excel at universities and research institutions across the globe. Sai pointed out some of the initiatives taken such as Alumni Visiting Faculty Program, Alumni Designing Industry-specific Courses for students, Alumni Mentorship Program and Internship for students in institutions/companies headed or founded by an alumnus.
