Chennai: The Additional Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu government, Hans Raj Verma, urged soap and detergent makers in Tamil Nadu to adopt modern technology and take full advantage of government schemes. He was inaugurating a two-day national convention organised by the Tamil Nadu Small Scale Soaps & Detergents Manufacturers Association (TANSDMA) in Chennai recently.

In his inaugural address, Verma said the state government was very keen to ensure that the MSME sector was healthy and progressed well. “It is a matter of pride that 60% of India’s MSMEs are based in Tamil Nadu and therefore the State government was eager to help them in furthering their success”, he added.

Verma pointed out that three Special Schemes had been developed, which focused on MSMEs, and urged the members to take advantage of these schemes. They would help in empowerment of women and youth while bringing about rural development which in turn would revive the rural economy and create jobs for the youth, Verma said.

He complimented the organizers on the theme of the conference “Explore the Unexplored” and said that Tamil Nadu government was ready to forge partnerships with the members of TANSDMA.

TANSDMA president K Dhanapal said the members were keen to adopt, adapt and improve to become a strong and healthy organisation. Companies are willing to adopt new technology now, he said adding that over 90% of its members were in the Micro and Small Scale level who want to expand their production.

S. Rethinavelu, Senior President – Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Madurai and S. Anburajan, President, Tamilnadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, offered felicitations.

Over 800 members from all over India participated in the convention.

The 55-year-old body has the manufacturers of around 600 soaps and detergent makers and allied products as its members. The total turnover exceeded Rs.1,500 crore a year, clocking a growth of 7% per annum, said the head of the TANSDMA National Seminar and Convention Committee,  A.J Saravanan.
