DMK psychological victory over AIADMK in rural local bodies of TN

The DMK-led opposition alliance established a psychological victory over the front formed by the ruling AIADMK in elections held to rural local bodies in December 2019. Coming just 15 months before the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the results have come as a shot in the arm for the DMK and its allies.
The DMK-led opposition alliance was ahead of the front led by ruling AIADMK in elections held to Tamil Nadu rural local bodies in both the District Panchayats and Oanchayat Union ward members.
The DMK continues to lead the battle for seats for elections to Panchayat Union Ward Members and District Panchayat Ward Members.
District Panchayat Ward Members:
DMK - 270, AIADMK – 239. Out of 515
Panchayat union leads:
DMK – 2,320 AIADMK – 2,181, Others – 535 Total 5,036 out of 5,067
The counting of votes for the rural local body elections in Tamil Nadu commenced in 27 districts on January 2 morning amid tight security.
The election was held in two phases on December 27 and 30 to elect 655 district ward panchayat members, 6,471 panchayat union ward members, 12,524 village panchayat presidents, and 99,324 village panchayat ward members.
Phase 1 was held in 27 districts of the State on December 27, while Phase 2 on December 30.
