DMK candidate MC Shanmugaiya wins Ottapidaram Assembly bypoll

DMK candidate MC Shanmugaiya has bagged the Ottapidaram Assembly constituency in the byelection held in Tamil Nadu. He won with a margin of 19,657 votes, defeating his nearest AIADMK rival, P Mohan.
Shanmugaiya secured 73,241 votes (42.96 per cent) as against 53,584 votes (31.43 per cent) obtained by Mohan of AIADMK.
Among others trailing were R Sundararaj (AMMK), M. Gandhi (MNM) and Akalya M (NTK).
The seat was held by AIADMK in 2016.
22 Assembly constituencies are up for grabs in the by-elections in Tamil Nadu.
