DMK candidate Neelamegam wins Thanjavur Assembly bypoll

Neelamegam TKG (DMK) won the Thanjavur Assembly byelection in Tamil Nadu. He defeated his nearest rival of AIADMK, R Gandhi, by 33,980 votes. Neelamegam secured 88,972 votes (46.93 per cent), as against 54,992 votes of Gandhi (29 per cent).
Among others trailing were Rengaswamy M (AMMK), Duraiswamy P (MNM) and Karthi M (NTK).
The seat was held by AIADMK in 2016.
22 Assembly constituencies are up for grabs in the by-elections in Tamil Nadu.
