Karunanidhi in hospital ICU, condition stable after BP drop

DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi suffered a major setback past midnight on July 28 as there was a drop in blood pressure. He was rushed to the Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet from his Gopalapuram residence and admitted there around 1 a.m. The condition was stabilized as he responded to treatment. Karunanidhi remains in the ICU of the hospital and continued to be monitored, a hospital bulletin said about 02.45 hrs.
Karunanidhi was being treated by a team of doctors at his Gopalapuram, residence over the last few days after he developed fever and an urinary infection. His condition was said to have improved on July 27 evening. However, shortly after midnight, his blood pressure dropped and the doctors decided to move him to the hospital.
There was a continuous stream of visitors from the political and film sectors yesterday, besides calls to DMK working president and Karunanidhi’s son M K Stalin including Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, PM Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, among others.
Karunanidhi’s relatives rushed to the hospital on hearing that he was admitted to the ICU around 1 a.m on July 28.
