Chennai:
Acting on a complaint by the I-T department, Tamil Nadu police filed an FIR against three ministers -- Kadambur Raju, R Kamaraj and Udumalai Radhakrishnan, and the Tamil Nadu Government Special Representative in New Delhi, N Thalaivai Sundaram, besides Health ministe C Vijayabaskar's car driver on Friday (April 14).
The IT department alleged in its complaint that the four legislators had attempted to obstruct a raid at the residence of state health minister C Vijayabaskar. Police named the three ministers and N Thalaivai Sundaram in the FIR and booked them under sections 183, 186, 189, 448 of the IPC.
All four lawmakers had allegedly entered Vijayabaskar's residence while the IT raid was underway.
The IT Department had summoned Tamil Nadu health minister C Vijayabaskar to appear in person for enquiries on April 17. IT officials raided several premises belonging to the minister and his relatives, after an associate revealed routing of Rs 89 crore for "distribution among voters" in the RK Nagar Assembly constituency, following which the April 12 by-election there was suspended.
Claiming his innocence, Vijayabaskar had earlier claimed that the raids were politically motivated. "I was fully cooperating with the IT officials. I showed all my documents and they were unable to find anything. They were threatening me. This is politically motivated. The IT department is harassing me," he said.
The IT conducted raids at Vijayabaskar's Greenways road residence in Chennai and also at other locations, including his quarry in Pudukottai and locations in Tiruchicharapalli.
