TN babus shaken by IT raids on Chief secretary office, house

The Income Tax department on December 21 carried out raids at the residence and office of Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, the residence of his son Vivek Papisetty in the city, and the latter’s in-laws’ house in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.
Tax officials said Rs 30 lakh in new Rs 2,000 notes, five kilograms of gold and documents with details of undisclosed assets worth about Rs 5 crore were recovered during the raids carried out at 11 places.
The IT department also unearthed “undisclosed income” to the tune of Rs. 5 crore from the house of Vivek Papisetty.
IT officials continued search operations for the second day at the premises of Rama Mohana Rao’s son.

In simultaneous searches on Wednesday, the Income Tax Department went through the residential and office premises of Rao in Chennai, Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh, and seized Rs. 30 lakh cash in new currency and 5 kg of gold.
Sources said the searches were carried out based on evidence gathered during the recent raids on the business and private premises of J. Sekhar Reddy, a government contractor and his two associates. Reddy, a big-time sand mining contractor, was on Wednesday arrested by the CBI.
