While reports emanate of Rs 90 crore collections on the first day of the film release world-wide, industry circles believe that the collections of the first week-end are not the real yardstick of a film's success, given the high cost of the tickets in the first week and the number of screens. These collections are based on advance booking by fans at least a week ahead of the film release. However, the fans’ reactions after seeing the film on the opening day, would reveal the real fate of the film. Those fans who have booked tickets in advance for several shows in the first three days will try and sell the tickets for the second and third day’s shows if they are not happy with the movie.
This trend had been seen in the case of all big-budget films including those of Rajikanth, Kamal Haasan, Surya, Ajith or Vijay.
Given below is a link of the video featuring Vairamuthu’s speech, where he makes a reference to Kapali film as a failure.

Rajni’s earlier films like Baba, Kuselan and Linga too had massive opening and huge booking in advance, but the frenzy died down after the opening day. Tickets bought in advance were surrendered by fans at the theatres on the second day itself.
Will Kapali survive in the second week or will it undergo the same fate as Baba, Kuselan and Linga? If the film drops in the second week, it will set off alarm bells again for the producers. The dust has not died down over demands from distributors over rights of the Linga film, though the actor is said to have returned some money to distributors of Linga movie.
