73.76 per cent of the electorate had cast votes in Tamil Nadu

An estimated 73.76 per cent of the electorate in Tamil Nadu had cast their votes for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu,according to final figures given by the Election department on May 16 night. Brisk polling had been witnessed in several districts of Tamil Nadu right from 7 a.m when polling commenced in the State.
Though the percentage was lower than the figure achieved during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the actual numbers were higher, said CEO Rajesh Lakhoni.
In Tamil Nadu, the choice was among four chief ministerial candidates-- AIADMK's J Jayalalithaa, DMK president M Karunanidhi, Third Front leader Vijayakanth and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, besides the BJP.
In Tamil Nadu, 232 seats were up for polls, with voting for Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies having been deferred.
Voting was held despite rains in some parts of the State in the morning.
Among those who cast their votes were Chief minister J Jayalalitha, DMK president M Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin, leaders of the third front including Vijayakanth, Vaiko, G KL Vasan, Thol Thirumavalavan, G Ramakrishnan and R Mutharasan.
Polling had also concluded in Kerala and for the Puducherry Assembly.
The polling started at 7 a.m. and ended just after at 6 p.m.
