Chennai:
AICC President Sonia Gandhi has criticised the AIADMK government and the party over the tardy flood relief work in November-December last, and said the people, along with voluntary organisations, came to the rescue of the homeless and those who lost their property, essential commodities and life-time savings.
Addressing a public meeting in Chennai to canvass votes for the DMK-Congress combine in Tamil Nadu, Sonia Gandhi said there was virtually no development in Tamil Nadu in the last five years. Several factories closed down, while a few others had left the state and moved their operations to other States, she said, adding unemployment was on the increase.
The BJP-led government at the Centre had also scuttled several welfare schemes introduced by the previous UPA government, she said.
DMK president M Karunanidhi said the DMK-Congress government alliance was an enduring one and had delivered various benefits to the State.
