Chennai:
Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) led by former Union minister G K Vasan has joined the Vijayakanth-led front. Vasan met with leaders of the People's Welfare Front at his party office in Teynampet on April 9 afternoon. The leaders of these five parties then drove down to the DMDK office in Koyambedu where DMDK leader Vijayakanth greeted the arrival of Vasan, and signed the agreement with the TMC, under which these parties would contest the Assembly elections together, with the TMC agreeing to contest 26 seats as part of the front.
The DMDK, which earlier decided to contest 124 seats, agreed to lower this number to 104 and spare 20 seats for the TMC. The constituents of the PWF spared six seats to make the total 26 for the TMC.
The agreement has come as a boost for the Vijayakanth front which now has six constituents, forming a formidable third force as an alternative to both the AIADMK and the DMK.
