Chennai:
The Election Commission has allotted Coconut Farm as the symbol for the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) in the May 16 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
This was announced by TMC president G K Vasan at a press conference in Chennai on March 29.
Vasan said the party could not get the symbol of Bicycle which was allotted in 1996 since it was already in use by the TDP in Andhra Pradesh and the Samajwadi Party.
Vasan said he was happy with the allotment of the Coconut Farm symbol as it symbolised agriculture, farm workers and indicated where the future of the country was. For India to develop, agriculture must be on a sound footing and the interests of the farmers must be protected, Vasan said.
Replying to a question, Vasan said the party would finalise its election strategy in April. There was plenty of time available and the EC had not fixed any deadline for electoral alliance, he added.
