Actor Kalabhavan Mani dies in Kochi hospital, film industry shocked

Kochi: Noted Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani died at a private hospital in Kochi on Sunday evening.

Actor Kalabhavan Mani had been ill for a few days and was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi earlier this week.

On March 6 afternoon, it was reported that his condition was serious and that he was on life support.

The actor was undergoing treatment for liver related diseases. The hospital confirmed Kalabhavan Mani’s passing late on Sunday.

Kalabhavan Mani had acted in many Malayalam and Tamil films.

 Noted Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani died at a private hospital in Kochi on Sunday evening.

He was 45. The death occurred around 7.15 p.m

Dr. Sanjeev Singh, senior medical administrator at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences here, said Mani was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night with bleeding haematemesis (vomiting of blood). The death occurred due to liver and kidney ailments, he said.

He was born in Chalakudy near Thrissur in Kerala..

Mani began as a mimicry artiste before moving to the Malayalam film industry as a comedian. He later improvised and took up character and villain roles with a shade of comedy in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies and earned kudos for his acting style.

He had also brought out a number of albums including folk songs. He had won special jury award for his performance in the Malayalam movie Vasanthiyum Lekshmiyum Pinne Njanum at the 47th National Film awards in the year 2000. This film was remade in Tamil as Kasi in which Vikram donned Mani's role.

Kalabhavan Mani had starred in several Tamil films like Gemini, Pudhiya Geethai, Aaru, Vel, Banda Paramasivam, Something Something Unakkum Enakkum and also Papanasam.

In Malayalam, some of his films were MLA Mani: Patham Classum Gusthiyum, Bachelor Party, Konthayum Poonoolum, Manushyamrugam, Aazhakadal and Priyappetta Nattukare.
