Elections in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala on May 16, counting on May 19

Election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly will be held on May 16, and counting will be taken up on May 19, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi announced on March 4.
Nominations for the 234 seats in Tamil Nadu will begin on April 22, and the last date for nominations is April 29. Scrutiny of nominations would be taken up on April 30, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 2. Voting will be taken up for all four States -- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and West Bengal -- and in the Union Territory of Pondicherry on May 19, and the poll process would be completed on May 21.
Elections would be held in Puducherry and Kerala under the same schedule as in Tamil Nadu, with polling on May 16, Zaidi said.
In Assam, elections will take place on April 4 and 11. West Bengal will have polling on April 4, 11, 17, 21, 25, 30 and May 5, Zaidi said.
