Kancheepuram:
Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakanth has made it clear that he would like to be king rather then king-maker, implying that the party would not play second fiddle to the DMK, thereby turning down the alliance offer.
Stating that he was no longer willing to “pawn” his outfit and its cadres, Vijayakanth said his party would not like to palnquin bearers for others.
Addresing a mega rally at Kancheepuram on February 20, Vijayakanth asked the crowd if he should be part of an alliance. Most of the party workers responded negatively.
“Should I be the King or the Kingmaker,” he asked the huge crowd. When they shouted ‘King’, he said. He said the press should take note of this.
However, he hastened to add that he would seek the views of party leaders during the interaction with ticket aspirants over the next few days.
Vijayakanth lashed out at the AIADMK government and indicated that the DMDK would have no truck with the ruling parties of the past. However, he was harsh towards the AIADMK in particular.
His wife Premalatha was critical of both the AIADMK and the DMK which sent clear signals that his party favoured his own front for the Assembly elections. “The corrupt DMK and AIADMK have converted the State into a burial ground,” she charged.
