Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said on August 15, 2015, said that her government will continue to work towards the target of all-round development and
inclusive growth.
In her Independence Day address after unfurling the National Flag at Fort St. George in Chennai, Jayalalithaa said in the last four years the State had witnessed
growth in all sectors. She pointed out that the State will attract investment worth over Rs. 1 lakh crore from the Global Investors Meet to be held in Chennai in
September. She said power cuts has been done away with due to rise in power generation and this had led to industrial growth and creation of jobs.
The Chief Minister said that in the education sector, in the last four years, a total of 1,319 schools had been upgraded, 192 primary schools opened, 72,843 teachers
appointed and 53 colleges including four government engineering colleges were opened.
The freedom fighters pension would be increased from Rs.10,000 to Rs. 11,000. Likewise, the family pension for their heirs would be increased from Rs. 5,000 to Rs.
5,500. 1,881 persons will benefit from at an additional cost of Rs.1.37 crore.
She also announced that the special pension for the descendents of Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Marudhu Brothers, Muthuramalinga Vijaya Raghunatha Sethupathi and
V.O.Chidambaram’s grandson will be enhanced to Rs. 5,000.
