Chennai: Veteran film director K Balachander, the mentor of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, has been admitted in Kaveri hospital in Chennai and is said to be in critical condition. The 84-year-old director is in Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, with a hospital press release stating that his condition is stable.
Balachander is constantly supervised by team of doctors. The hospital press release said "Veteran film director MR. K Balachander, 84 year, has developed fever and
certain age-related ailments over the past few days. He is being treated at our hospital now. At present he is stable and all necessary treatments are being given."
Actor Rajinikanth, who was introduced by Balachander in Apoorva Raagangal, rushed to the hospital to visit his mentor. Rajinikanth said Balachander was stable and he
recognised visitors and talked to them. He will be fine. Let all of us pray for him, added Rajinikanth. Kamal Haasan is in Los Angeles, looking after the post-production of his film 'Uttama Villain' directed by Ramesh Arvind.
Balachander's son Kailasam died a few months ago.
