AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, granted bail by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case, is expected to be released from the Bengaluru prison on October 18 after completion of formalities by her legal team.
Jayalalithaa will be released... but tomorrow -- because formalities for her release from the prison are yet to be completed, her senior counsel B Kumar said.
Kumar said the special court would be approached on October 18 morning. The special court had convicted Jayalalithaa to a four-year jail term. Formalities like surety would be completed only in the special court at Bengaluru.
The Supreme Court order copy would be obtained by October 17 evening. On october 18, the legal team would approach the special court in Bengaluru and furnish surety to enable her release, Kumar said.
DIG Prisons P M Jaisimha said the release would take place on Saturday. He said he had met Jayalalithaa on October 16 night to enquire about her health. Her health condition is fine, he added.
Meanwhile, the news of the bail order was greeted with cheers by a gathering of AIADMK workers near the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. They distributed sweets. Celebrations were also held near Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence.
Tight security was ensured near the Agrahara central prison, Bengaluru police said. Over 1,000 cops had been posted on duty here, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar said.
