Bengaluru:
The Bengaluru Special Court Judge, John Michael Cunha, has described as “shocking” the conduct of a few officials who, he said had bent rules to register properties for firms in which the accused -- Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Sudhagaran and Ilavarasi -- were directors/partners.
The special court judgment in the disproportionate assets case of Jayalalithaa has pointed out the case of a Sub-Registrar of North Beach, Chennai.
The judgment refers to his deposition about how on instructions of higher officers, “errands at the instance of the accused” were attended to when asked to come to Poes Garden. The Judge said the Sub-Registrar, evincing “personal interest”, had “bent the rules and registered large number of documents…even though all these properties were undervalued.”
“It is also shocking to note that he even registered six documents without the names of the purchasers being entered in the documents, which indicate that the Sub-Registrar was also aware of the purpose and design of the accused,” the Judge said.
