Bengaluru:
Former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's bail plea will be heard by the Karnataka high court only on October 7. A Special Sitting of the Karnataka High Court took up the urgent bail plea moved by advocates of the AIADMK supremo on Wednesday. However, Vacation judge Justice Rathnakala said that this matter has to be heard by a regular bench.
On Tuesday, when a bail plea was moved before the Vacation judge, G Bhavani Singh, former Special Public Prosecutor in the Special Court that convicted Jayalalithaa and three close aides to a four-year jail-term each, had said as there was no official communication that he had been appointed prosecutor in the appeal, it would not be correct on his part to represent the State.
The judge said the matter would have to wait for appointment of a prosecutor.
Bhavani Singh was said to have opposed the bail plea as the prosecution required more time. Meanwhile, AIADMK MPs said they would meet President Pranavb Mukherjee in New Delhi on Thursday to bring the situation to his attention notice and seeking his immediate intervention for the release of Jayalalithaa.
