Bengaluru:
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court adjourned former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's bail application and appeal to Monday, October 6, 2014. This means that she and her close aides (Sasikala, J Ilavarasi and V N Sudhagaran) will remain in Bengaluru jail at least till Oct 6.
Their application came up for hearing before the vacation bench of the Court. Special Public Prosecutor Bhavani Singh, who also appeared for the State at the Special Court, said that while he received information about his appointment as prosecutor for the appeal as well, he had not received any formal communication about his appointment from the Karnataka Government. Therefore, in view of the fact that there had to be representation from the respondents, the High Court adjourned the bail plea to Monday, October 6.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Ram Jethamalani was among the lawyers representing the defendants.
The defendants have also sought suspension of the sentence and the conviction in the Rs 66.65 crore disprortionate assets case. The four were convicted to four-year jail-term each on September 27, 2014.
