Bengaluru: A special court here has found Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa guilty in the disproportionate assets (DA) case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Special Court Judge John Michael D’Cunha will pronounce a detailed verdict at 3 p.m. today in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case.
The court had already directed in January 2014 that the the valuables and other assets seized from her in 1997 be handed over to the court.
Special Court Judge John Michael D’Cunha convicted her on September 27, 2014, in the 18-year-old disproportionate assets case.
DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan had impleaded himself in the case. In his application, Anbazhagan had pleaded that the court take custody of 800 kg silver, 28 kg gold, 750 pairs of shoes, 10,500 sarees, 91 watches and other items seized during a raid in 1997 as evidence.
The AIADMK chief has been charged with amassing Rs 66.65 crore between 1991 and 1996 when she was Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
