A police team from Chennai arrested M Natarajan, husband of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s close aide N Sasikala, from a bungalow near Five Falls at Courtallam on July 7, 2014, in connection with a ‘cheating case’ filed by karate expert Shihan Husseini.
The operation was a secret affair as the Chennai special police team from Chennai did not keep the Courtallam police station and the Special Branch police here in the loop.
In his complaint to Chennai City Police, Shihan Husseini had alleged that Natarajan had agreed to pay Rs. 98 lakh to design a 50-feet-long and six-feet-tall frieze to be installed in the Mullivaaikaal Memorial at Thanjavur, which was set up by World Tamil Confederation Trust (WTCF) to focus attention on the the “mass killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka" during the conflict between Sri Lankan armed forces and the LTTE.
Natarajan had paid Rs. 75 lakh but allegedly refused to pay the balance amount of Rs. 23 lakh, Husseini said adding that he then lodged a police complaint against Natarajan.
Husseini charged that he was threatened when he enquired about the outstanding amount. Thereafter, the Chennai police team decided to take him into custody and investigate the matter further after interrogating him. A four-member team from Chennai went to Courtallam on July 7 morning in a hired vehicle, and entered the bungalow where Natarajan was staying since Sunday. The main entrance of the bungalow was locked from inside. Therefore, the cops entered the bungalow by crossing a stream near the building.
