New Delhi:
Narendra Modi is all set to become the next Prime Minister, with the BJP likely to get a majority on its own, while the NDA is expected to touch 340 seats in the 543-strong Lok Sabha.
The Congress is likely to touch an all-time low of below 50, and the UPA itself not likely to cross 60. Other parties too suffered massive defeats barring the AIADMK, TMC and the BJD in Orissa, with the BSP unlikely to win a single seat and the SP reduced to single digit.
The AIADMK could win 37 out of 39 seats, and the Mamata-led TMC 33 seats and BJD 16. All the other powerful regional parties bit the dust. Aap could win only 5 seats but lost its hold in Delhi with the BJP winning all seven seats here.
The Congress drew some solace with Captain Amarinder Singh crushing BJP leader Arun Jaitley in Punjab. However, Tarun Gogoi submitted his resignation from chief ministership of Assam since his party secured less than six seats in the state.
Narendra Modi won both the seats he contested --- Vadodara and Varanasi -- and is expected to be sworn in as PM on May 21, after his election as BJP parliamentary party leader, party sources said.
