Chennai:
The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu is set to sweep Tamil Nadu, with early trends showing the party establishing leads in 37 of the 39 constiutuencies in the State.
The NDA alliance was leading in just two seats -- Kanyakumari and Dharmapuri. Elsewhere, it was AIADMK supremo and TN chief minister J Jayalalithaa all the way.
According to the Election Commission of India, the AIADMK was leading in 37 constituencies out of 39 at the end of four rounds around noon on May 16.
The AIADMK's arch rival, DMK, is not leading even in a single seat. Former Union ministers A Raja (Nilgiris) and Dayanidhi Maran (Central Madras), were trailing.
The AIADMK appears to have been helped by a divided opposition.
The NDA's big alliance has not yielded expected results, with DMDK and PMK drawing a blank so far.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko is trailing in Virudhunagar constituency. BJP gets some consolation in the form of the good performance by State president Pon. Radhakrishnan in Kanyakumari and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss (Dharmapuri).
However, the results have come as a dampener in some ways for the AIADMK as it may not be in a position to play a dominant role at the Centre, with the BJP set to gain a majority on its own.
