Karur:
Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa lashed out at the BJP for the first time in her campaiogn for the Lok sabha elections on a day when BJP leader Narendra Modi visited Chennai.
Jayalalithaa, in an election rally here, hit out at the BJP for betraying Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery waters issue.
She said the BJP was looking at vote banks in Karnataka and therefore was not keen on supporting Tamil Nadu'sgenuine demand for Cauvery water. In Tamil Nadu, the BJP and the Congress had no chance to come to power, she said.
Jayalalithaa recalled that in 1999, her party withdrew from the NDA government at the Centre for its ineffectiveness in constituting the Cauvery water authority to implement the interim order of the Cauvery water dispute tribunal (CWDT).
Last week, Jayalalithaa, when asked by Union Finance minister P Chidambaram as to why she refrained from criticising the BJP or Modi, said it was the UPA government that was at the Centre and was responsible for the ills of the country.
However, now she has chosen to attack the BJP too.
