Chidambaram:
The NDA suffered a jolt in Tamil Nadu as the nominations of two NDA candidates -- a BJP nominee in Nilgiris constituency, and PMK candidate I Manirathnam in Chidambaram constituency -- for the April 24 Lok Sabha elections, were rejected on scrutiny on April 7.
In Chidambaram, the nomination of PMK candidate I Manirathnam, seeking contest on behalf of the BJP-led NDA alliance in the state, was rejected as it lacked the mandatory ten proposers.
However, the nomination paper of Manirathnam's wife Sudha, a dummy candidate of the party, was found in order.
Manirathnam defected from Congress to the PMK only a few days ago as he was not given the Congress ticket for the Chidambaram (SC) seat.
The nomination paper of BJP candidate from Nilgiris Constituency (SC), S Gurumurthy, was rejected by the returning officer P Shankar for delayed submission of mandatory B Form.
However, the BJP has said it would file an appeal.
The scrutiny of Aam Admi Party (AAP) candidate Rani in Nilgiris was kept in abeyance as she had produced a community certificate issued in 1986 and was given time till tomorrow to produce a fresh one.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations in Tamil Nadu is April 9.
