Madurai:
Huge crowds thronged Tamukkam grounds here on April 5 to watch maestro Ilayaraja and his son Karthik Raja perform. The crowd included over 2,000 persons from his village Pannaipuram to watch Ilayarajavin Sangeetha Thirunaal.
“I’ve been blessed with music as my father and I know that not many people are as lucky,” an emotional Karthik Raja, said to launch the concert.
Ilayaraja began tbe programme with the customary ‘Janani Janani’. This was followed by soul rendition of Raja hits by Vijay Prakash, Sadhana Sargam, Hariharan, Mano, Chitra, Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Ilayaraja's daughter Bhavathaarini launched ‘Ilaiyaraaja Fan Club’ (IFC). Those wishing to become official fans of the great musician can log on to www.isaignanifanclub.com. On June 3, 71,000 trees will be planted on behalf of the fan club.
The event was organised by Ilayaraja's son Karthik Raja who had made elaborate arrangements.
Ilayaraja also launched the CD of the upcoming film 'Varayo Vennilave' at the event.
Ilayaraja asked the audience to enjoy every instrument that was played and not just the vocals. "Listen to each instrument and it will purify your blood and enhance your wellbeing," he said.
