Former Union minister and Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar and 62 others filed their nominations on March 29, the opening day of nominations for the April 24 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.
Anti-nuclear activist and Aam Admi Party (AAP) candidate S P Udayakumar filed his paper on March 29 for the Kanyakumari constituency.
63 persons filed their nominations for the general elections to the Lok Sabha from Tamil Nadu on day one, a press release from State Chief Electoral Officer said.
Mani Shankar Aiyar, now a Rajya Sabha member, filed his papers from the Mayiladuthurai constituency in the Cauvery delta region. He had represented this constituency earlier.
Udayakumar has been leading the protests against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli district for nearly three years.
His colleagues in the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), M P Jesuraj and M Pushparayan filed their papers as AAP candidates for the Tuticorin and Tirunelveli constituencies respectively.
In Madurai, CPM candidate D. Vikraman filed his papers.
